“Eshwarappa Has Decided To Resign On His Own”: Karnataka CM

Bangalore: On Friday, Karnataka Congress Chief DK Shivakumar took a swipe at Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai after confirmation of KS Eshwarappa will be tendering his resignation from his ministerial post on Friday following allegations of corruption.

He said that protestors are not protesting to seek the minister’s resignation, they are protesting against corruption. “The protest is not for his resignation (KS Eshwarappa) but against corruption. CM said (Eshwarappa) has not done anything wrong. If he didn’t do anything then why are you accepting his resignation?” said Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar.

While addressing to reporters Bommai said that Eshwarappa has decided to resign on his own. He said, “Eshwarappa has decided to resign on his own. He will tender his resignation today evening. He has expressed that he will come out from all allegations soon. The police will investigate the matter.”

He said that there is no need for the opposition to become an investigation officer or judge. He said, “No need for the Opposition to become an investigation officer or judge as everything will come out after probe.”

Congress is demanding Esherwappa’s arrest in connection with the death of contractor Santosh Patil. Santosh Patil had alleged corruption by the minister. “Resignation is not a solution. A case of corruption has to be registered, then he has to be arrested,” said Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Thursday.

Deceased contractor Santosh Patil had accused the Minister Eshwarappa of corruption. On Tuesday he was found dead in a lodge in Udupi.

KS Eshwarappa, a Karnataka minister and senior BJP leader, announced his resignation from the State Cabinet on Friday, just two days after being identified as an accused in a case involving the “unnatural death” of a construction contractor.

“I have worked as Rural Development Minister in the Bommai government. I have decided today that I will resign as Minister tomorrow,” Eshwarappa said during a short media briefing in Shivamogga on Thursday.

The Minister said he was quitting “to prevent embarrassment to the BJP” and would submit his resignation to Bommai in Bengaluru.
