Haridwar Hate Speech: Wasim Rizvi Aka Jitendra Tyagi Arrested

New Delhi: Former chairman of Shia Waqf Board Wasim Rizvi aka Jitendra Tyagi was arrested by the Uttarakhand Police on Thursday, the arrest was connected to the hate speech case, according to ANI reports.

According to Swatantra Kumar, SP City Haridwar, Rizvi was arrested and later was sent to judicial remand for 14 days by a local court.

Rizvi is one of the accused from the Haridwar Hate Speech case, he was of inciting violence, hate speech against the community at a three day conclave that was orgainsed at Hairdwar last year in december. The conclave organizer was Yati Narasimhanand Giri of the Juna Akhada from December 17 to 19, who is already under police scanner for making hate speeches and inciting violence against Muslims.

Multiple clips from the event later were widely circulated on social media platforms, inviting sharp criticism from several leaders.

Tyagi is the first accused to be arrested in the hate speech case.

Earlier in December, the police had registered a case against Tyagi and others under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, etc) in Haridwar.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Police have issued notices to Yati Narsinghanand and another accused Sadhvi Annapurna.

Maynaguri, West Bengal: The death count in the train accident in north Bengal has spiked to nine and 36 people are in hospitals as officials said no more passengers are trapped in the derailed coaches.

Six of the injured passengers are in a critical condition and have been shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri. The others are being treated at hospitals in Jalpaiguri and Maynaguri.

All survivors in the Express train travelling from Bikaner to Guwahati were brought out of the coaches by midnight, Guneet Kaur, Chief Public Relations Officer of the North East Frontier Railway, told NDTV. She added that the tracks are now being cleared and restored.

Twelve coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed near the Maynaguri town of Bengalโ€™s Jalpaiguri district on Thursday.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the accident site today. โ€œHeading towards the accident site,โ€ he tweeted last night.

The minister yesterday said he has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him of the rescue operations. โ€œWe will fulfil all our duties,โ€ he has said.

The Prime Minister has expressed his condolences to the affected families.

A high-level safety inquiry has been ordered to probe what led to the derailment.

The Railway minister has also announced compensation for the passengers. The families of those killed in the accident will receive โ‚น 5 lakh, those seriously injured will get โ‚น 1 lakh and โ‚น 25,000 will be given for minor injuries, the minister announced yesterday.

The accident occurred around 5 pm. Visuals from the spot showed that a mangled coach climbed on another due to the impact and several bogies overturned.

Hundreds of people from nearby villages rushed to help the victims as teams of the National Disaster Response Force joined the rescue work later.
