Hate Speech: Kalicharan Maharaj Gets Bail After Three Months

Raipur: Kalicharan Maharaj alias Abhijeet Dhananjay Saraag, the controversial Hindu seer arrested in December in a sedition case registered against him for derogatory comments against Mahatma Gandhi, has been granted bail by the Chhattisgarh high court on Friday.

Justice Arvind Singh Chandel of the high courtโ€™s Bilaspur bench ordered Kalicharan release on bail on furnishing a personal bond of โ‚น1 lakh with two sureties of โ‚น50,000 each, his counsel Kishore Bhaduri said, according to PTI.

Kalicharan was arrested after the Chhattisgarh Police registered an FIR against Kalicharan Maharaj under sections 505 (2) (making statement that create or promotes enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 294 (obscene acts) for allegedly using derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi. Later, police added 124 A (sedition) and four other sections of the IPC in the case.

In December last year, during the conclusion of the two-day โ€˜dharma sansadโ€™ (religious parliament) in Raipur, the seer allegedly used abusive words for Mahatma Gandhi, and asked people to elect a staunch Hindu leader as the head of the government to protect the religion.

โ€œThe applicant has been falsely implicated in this case due to political rivalry. The offence under Section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code is prima facie not made out against the applicant. The decisive ingredients for establishing the offence is missing in the First Information Report, there is no suggestion that the applicant did anything as against the government of Chhattisgarh, Government of India or any other Governments of States. The complaint filed against the applicant contains no averment that the applicant did anything as against the governments,โ€ Kalicharanโ€™s lawyer argued.

Aryan Khan Case: NCBโ€™s Witness Prabhakar Sail Dies, Lawyer Claims Death Reason As Heart Attack

Aleesha Sam

Mumbai: The drugs case involving the Cordelia Cruise Ship, in which Shah Rukh Khanโ€™s son Aryan Khan was arrested in October 2021, has resurfaced. Prabhakar Sail, a witness for the Narcotics Control Bureau, died on Friday afternoon, according to ANI. In the narcotic on cruise ship case, where Aryan was detained alongside his companion Arbaaz Merchant last year in October, NCBโ€™s Panch witness was Prabhakar Sail. Prabhakarโ€™s counsel now claims that he died on Friday of a heart attack.

ANI tweeted, โ€œMumbai | NCBโ€™s panch witness in Cordelia cruise drug case, Prabhakar Sail died yesterday. As per his lawyer Tushar Khandare, he died of a heart attack at his residence in Mahul area of Chembur yesterday.โ€ Prabhakar was one of the witnesses who had alleged extortion by NCB officials last year during the probe of the Cordelia Cruise Ship drugs case in which Aryan was arrested. After Aryan was arrested, he was sent to Arthur Road Jail where he was an inmate till October 30 with his friend Arbaaz Merchant. As per India Today, Prabhakar Sailโ€™s family did not โ€˜suspect any foul playโ€™.

The case was recently brought back into the spotlight when the NCB sought that the Court permit them 90 days to file a chargesheet in Aryanโ€™s case. The Court, on the other hand, simply gave them another 60 days to file a chargesheet. The NCB had set an April 2 deadline for filing the chargesheet in Aryan Khanโ€™s case. The SIT team, on the other hand, petitioned the Mumbai Sessions Court for an extension in the case.

Munmun Dhamecha was also detained in the Cordelia Cruise Ship Drugs case last year, alongside Aryan Khan and his associate Arbaaz Merchant. When his sonโ€™s bail application was being considered in court, Shah Rukh also paid a visit to the Arthur Road jail. The Bombay High Court granted Aryan bail, and he was released on October 30, 2021. Aryan has been spending time with his family since then.
