New Delhi: Congress Leader Manish Tiwari has stated that he is a stakeholder in the Congress and not a tenant, and has dismissed speculations of resigning from the party, even as it is striving to retain power in Punjab that votes on February 20.
Manish Tewari told news agency ANI on Thursday, “Hum Congress party mein koi kirayedar thode hi hain, hum hissedar hain [I am not a tenant in the Congress. I am a stakeholder in the party].”
But if someone pushes me out, it’s a different matter. I have given 40 years of my life to this party,” Manish Tewari said.
Earlier this week Manish Tiwari said at Panchayat Aaj Tak, that he was not leaving Congress and was just wanting some demographic changes in the party. On being questioned of quitting the Congress, like some other senior leaders, he said, “I shall cross the bridge when I reach there.”
He said, “The Congress will be at a loss even if a small party worker leaves the Congress. The loss will be colossal if senior leaders leave the party.”
The news of Manish Tiwari quitting Congress gained spark after another senior party member and Union minister Ashwani Kumar resigned from the party. Back then, Manish Tewari had told Panchayat Aaj Tak that he was surprised at Ashwani Kumar’s decision of quitting the party.
Tewari, however, said Ashwani Kumar’s resignation was a matter of deep concern for the Congress.
