Mumbai: The income-tax department is searching the premises of influential Shiv Sena corporator Yashwant Jadhav and his wife MLA Yamini Jadhav at the Byculla area of South Mumbai.
Officials said that a team from the tax department was undertaking the raids since early morning. The I-T search is in connection with and earlier tax inquiry against Jadhav’s wife Yamini, who is an MLA from Byculla. The tax department had found alleged discrepancies in the election affidavit of Yamini that she had filed for 2019 Assembly polls. The discrepancy pertains to a few transactions with a Kolkata-based shell company that the tax department suspects was allegedly used to launder money to the tune of Rs 15 crore.
Jadhav is the chairman of BMC’s standing committee that has final authority to approve all big financial proposals of the civic bodies.
The I-T is also searching the premises of a few BMC contractors.
Shiv Sena is the ruling the BMC civic body for over two decades and the next elections is set to take in couple of months.
Last year I-T conducted a investigation into election affidavit of Shiv Sena’s Byculla MLA Yamini Jadhav and called it “erroneous”.
