New Delhi: The main accused of ‘Sulli Deals’ app, Aumkareshwar Thakur, during the interrogation has revealed to police that he got the idea to create the app from a ‘trad’ group on Twitter. The mastermind and creator of the ‘Sulli Deal’ app Aumkareshwar Thakur has been arrested said the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Sunday. Delhi police arrested Aumkareshwar Thakur from Indore.
His arrest came following a tip-off by the alleged creator of Bulli Bai app Niraj Bishnoi, who revealed during the investigation that he was in touch with Aumkareshwar Thakur.
Thakur stated that he was part of ‘trad’ group on Twitter. And he stated that from that group he got idea of Sulli Deals – app used to defame and target Muslim women. According to the police, Aumkareshwar Thakur had joined the ‘trad’ group named ‘Treadmahasabha’ in January 2020 using Twitter handle @gangescion.
Trad, which is a short form for ‘traditionalists’, is used on Twitter to define the purists from a certain ideology. Recently, the terminology has become popular in the context of the Bulli Bai and Sulli Deals cases, where photos of several Muslim women were uploaded on apps without their consent for a virtual “auction”.
As per Delhi Police sources, a trad group called ‘Hindumahasabha’ promoted hate speech towards a particular community, and the creator of the Sulli Deals app got inspired from this group and thought of creating the app.
After the outrage in the Sulli Deals case, Aumkareshwar Thakur had deleted all his social media footprints.
Niraj Bishnoi, the main accused in the Bulli Bai case, also identified himself as a ‘trad’ in the alleged tweet he directed to taunt and challenge law enforcement agencies.
Delhi Police’s investigation in both the cases, headed by DCP IFSO Unit KPS Malhotra, is still going on to further analyse the technical gadget and to find out the codes/images related to the Sulli Deals app.
The app had created a major uproar last year for targeting Muslim women and uploading their images without their permission. It has been back in news since the latest row over the ‘Bulli Bai’ case that appears to be a close of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app and lists Muslim women for ‘auction’.
