Jaipur: After skirmishes occurred between two clans on Eid and its eve in Jodhpur, the hometown of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan police have arrested 97 persons so far.
Curfews are still in effect in areas of Jodhpur, including Udai Mandir and Nagori Gate, and the internet has been shut down to prevent rumours from spreading.
Atop Monday night, conflicts occurred over the erecting of Eid flags on the Jalori entrance circle, resulting in stone hurling that injured at least five police officers. On Monday night, police used tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd.
The event occurred during the three-day Parshuram Jayanti festival in Jodhpur.
The riots are the most recent in a string of communal incidents that have occurred across the country in recent weeks, including in Delhi, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
