Thiruvananthapuram: P C George, a senior Kerala politician, was arrested by police on Sunday for allegedly making inflammatory remarks on Muslims.
Mr George was apprehended by officers from the Fort police station in the early hours of Sunday from his home in Erattupetta, Kottayam district, according to police.
Mr George was charged on Saturday with inciting religious hate after a speech at a conclave in the state capital, according to police.
On the orders of state police head Anil Kant, officers at the Fort police station started action against the former legislator on their own initiative.Mr George, who was booked under section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code, is being brought to Thiruvananthapuram, police said.

On Friday, he said that tea laced with “drops causing impotence” was offered at Muslim-run restaurants to make people “infertile” in order to “seize control” of the country, speaking at an event organized as part of the ongoing Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan in Thiruvananthapuram.
The 70-year-old legislator, who served in the state Assembly for 33 years representing the Poonjar constituency, had also asked non-Muslims to boycott Muslim-owned companies.
The ruling CPI(M) and the opposition Congress had condemned his remarks.
