Men Eligible For Child Care Leave: J&K Administration

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued a new notification stating that a male government employee who is a divorcee or widower is eligible to get child care leave as applicable to women. This step has been taken by the Department of Finance as a major welfare measure for employees, following the approval of child care leave to women employees for a period of two years.

According to the notification issued by additional chief secretary (finance) Atal Dulloo, the words โ€œwoman employee and single male employeeโ€ replaced โ€œwoman employeeโ€ in the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1979.

The department has defined โ€˜single male employeeโ€™ as unmarried or widower or divorcee government employee.

โ€œthe Lieutenant Governor is pleased to direct that the amendments shall be made in the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1979for the words โ€œwoman employeeโ€, the words, โ€œwoman employee and single male employeeโ€ shall be substituted,โ€ according to the notification.

Employee will be paid full salary for first year, and 80 percent pay for the second year during the child care leave, the notification said.
