Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid supports Govt over CAA, says “It has nothing to do with the Muslims in India”

‘Under CAA Muslim refugees who come to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan, & Bangladesh will not get Indian citizenship,’ said Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid.



NEW DELHI| On Wednesday Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari came out in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act. While addressing people, Syed Ahmed Bukhari said CAA and NRC are different from each other. CAA has become a law and NRC has just been announced by the government but not a law.

While giving a brief to the people, Bukhari further added that the people who are welcomed by India from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will not be getting Indian Citizenship. And further clarified stating that Muslims living in India need not worry as CAA has nothing to do with Indian Muslims.

On the ongoing violence over CAA across the nation especially in Delhi as the silent protest turns into violence expressing concern Bukhari said doing a protest is the right of the people no one can hold us from doing it but there has to be a control over your emotions.

Imam Ahmed Bukhari, the top cleric of Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques of India, put out the appeal for restraint after the violence at Delhi’s Jamia Millia University on Sunday when protesters clashed with the police. Several students were injured when the police stormed the campus and 100 were arrested and released later.

Yesterday, there were protests in Seelampur and Brijpuri in east Delhi, where protesters threw stones at the police and vandalized vehicles. The police used batons and tear gas on the protesters.
