All properties of those involved in damaging public assets will be seized and auctioned to compensate for the losses,” Yogi Adityanath said
Lucknow: On Thursday Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said his government will take “revenge” on those involved in the violence over the Citizenship Act by auctioning their property to compensate for the losses.
“There is no place for violence in Indian democracy. In the name of opposing the CAA, the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Left parties have pushed entire India to fire. “There was violence in Lucknow and Sambhal and our government will deal with it very strictly. All properties of those involved in damaging public assets will be seized and auctioned to compensate for the losses,” Yogi Adityanath said.
“They have been captured in video and CCTV footage. We will take ‘badla’ (revenge) on them,” the UP Chief Minister said.
Yogi Adityanath accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) of “misleading” people on the CAA. An order regarding this has been issued to the home secretary and the DGP.
The UP chief minister’s warning has come in the backdrop of violent agitation that broke out in UP’s capital Lucknow on Thursday. Protesters demonstrating against the CAA pelted stones torched vehicles and faced tear-gas shells in Lucknow and some other parts of Uttar Pradesh as cops struggled to contain the fallout of the citizenship law.
Internet services remained suspended for at least a day at various places, including Aligarh, Sambhal, Mau and Azamgarh districts.
Section 144 was imposed it bans the assembly of people, had already been in force in the entire state for many days now.
Samajwadi Party and Congress MLAs held an agitation in the state assembly complex against the Citizenship Amendment Act. SP workers also defied the ban on protests in many districts, the party said. Their agitation largely remained peaceful.
