Prabhakar Shinde Slams Shiv Sena, Says, “Sena Is Flouting All The Rules In Municipal Corporation”

Mumbai: BJP Leader Prabhakar Shinde claims that Shiv Sena is flouting all the rules in Municipal Corporation, and is getting several proposals cleared based on the majority it has in the Standing Committee. The Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner too are misusing their special rights and tabling these proposals before the Standing Committee.

Further, he says, “For quite some time now, several proposals before the Standing Committee are tabled under Municipal Act 69(C) and 72(3). According to the law, these proposals should be brought before the Standing Committee in 15 days. However, flouting all norms the proposals are tabled before the Standing Committee and get passed without any proper discussion on it.”

He said that similarly, three such proposals were brought before the Standing Committee on February 11, 2022. The first proposal worth Rs 44 crore pertained to Dahisar Jumbo Covid Centre. The Standing Committee was functional even then and still, no details of the said proposal were provided to the Committee members.

The second proposal was regarding supplying security guards. A whopping sum of Rs 1.40 crore was spent on engaging security guards. However, the proposal did not have any information about how many security guards were hired, where they were supplied, and what about their attendance.

Perhaps the third proposal was the most surprising. A sum of Rs 1 crore was spent to get rid of rats in Mumbai city. Again, no break-up of the said amount was made available. No one knows how many rats were killed, where were they killed, how their bodies were disposed of.

He said that on BJP’s behalf they have decided to move the matter to the court. He said, “The Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner can spend funds on special issues as per Municipal Act 69(C) and 73(3). However, these provisions are being abused and the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns such behavior. These issues have been raised in the House several times for which at times the administration has expressed regret. However, there is no sign of stopping the loot of taxpayers’ money in Mumbai. Hence, on behalf of the BJP, we have decided to move the court in this regard.”
