Report Says Shiv Sena To Have Age Criteria For BMC Polls, Mayor Pednekar Denies

Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: According to the report by Hindustan post, Shiv Sena has already decided “age” criteria for candidates for the civic body, ahead of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Corporators age group above 45, are likely to not get chance this time, as the party is in a view of fielding young faces. Even if the Corporator is senior enough and elected more than twice, the age criteria would be implemented before giving the candidature to him, the sources in the party said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s instructed the party workers to start preparations. On the other hand, while speaking to media, Mumbai’s Mayor Kishori Pednekar denies the age criteria news. She said that there is no age criteria in BMC elections.

According to the Hindustan Post reports, the election date of this year has not yet been announced by the commission, everyone is keeping a tab on when the election program will be announced by the State Election Commission. The elections will be fought under Shiv Sena Leader and Environment Minister and Guardian Minister Aditya Thackeray. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray would be guiding the election this time. The lead will be in the hands of Aaditya Thackeray, and hence he will be looking up to all the developments.

As per the report at present, the Sena has two layers in the party, the senior workers and youth workers. However, the senior workers above 50 years had limitation due to the Covid 19 and could not reach out to the people. Therefore, Aditya has decided that considering Covid like situation in future, the corporators should be able to work on field and their age should not become a hindrance. So, the party is contemplating on giving candidature to the workers below 45 years. The party sources said that the senior party leaders and workers should understand the decision and not to remain adamant or demanding for the ticket.

The report further states that if the party allies with NCP for BMC elections, Shiv Sena would give more than 50 per cent seats to Yuva Sena executives and remaining seats would be kept for leaders from the party and trade union. The party leaders are of the option that Sena needs more young faces like Aditya who can work hard on the ground. Those elected for the second time now would be mature enough. Hence Aditya is seriously thinking of the formula of age criteria and having a more young team who would be his contemporaries. After five years, these youngsters would become a solid team for Aditya. However, the age criteria would not be applicable for leaders coming from other parties and having potential to get elected. Also, in case of popular candidates in areas where opposition parties are dominant too would be likely excluded from the age criteria. So, those who have crossed 50 years of age would have no position but given role within the party hierarchy.
