Report Says Shiv Sena To Have Age Criteria For BMC Polls, Mayor Pednekar Denies

Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: According to the report by Hindustan post, Shiv Sena has already decided โ€œageโ€ criteria for candidates for the civic body, ahead of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Corporators age group above 45, are likely to not get chance this time, as the party is in a view of fielding young faces. Even if the Corporator is senior enough and elected more than twice, the age criteria would be implemented before giving the candidature to him, the sources in the party said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackerayโ€™s instructed the party workers to start preparations. On the other hand, while speaking to media, Mumbaiโ€™s Mayor Kishori Pednekar denies the age criteria news. She said that there is no age criteria in BMC elections.

According to the Hindustan Post reports, the election date of this year has not yet been announced by the commission, everyone is keeping a tab on when the election program will be announced by the State Election Commission. The elections will be fought under Shiv Sena Leader and Environment Minister and Guardian Minister Aditya Thackeray. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray would be guiding the election this time. The lead will be in the hands of Aaditya Thackeray, and hence he will be looking up to all the developments.

As per the report at present, the Sena has two layers in the party, the senior workers and youth workers. However, the senior workers above 50 years had limitation due to the Covid 19 and could not reach out to the people. Therefore, Aditya has decided that considering Covid like situation in future, the corporators should be able to work on field and their age should not become a hindrance. So, the party is contemplating on giving candidature to the workers below 45 years. The party sources said that the senior party leaders and workers should understand the decision and not to remain adamant or demanding for the ticket.

The report further states that if the party allies with NCP for BMC elections, Shiv Sena would give more than 50 per cent seats to Yuva Sena executives and remaining seats would be kept for leaders from the party and trade union. The party leaders are of the option that Sena needs more young faces like Aditya who can work hard on the ground. Those elected for the second time now would be mature enough. Hence Aditya is seriously thinking of the formula of age criteria and having a more young team who would be his contemporaries. After five years, these youngsters would become a solid team for Aditya. However, the age criteria would not be applicable for leaders coming from other parties and having potential to get elected. Also, in case of popular candidates in areas where opposition parties are dominant too would be likely excluded from the age criteria. So, those who have crossed 50 years of age would have no position but given role within the party hierarchy.

Amritpal Singh Still On The Run: Centre Asks BSF, SSB To Be Alert At Border Posts

Shashank

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the chiefs of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to be alert in the border areas as there is a possibility that Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh Sandhu might cross over the International Border in Punjab or via the India-Nepal border, reported Indian Express.

An officer said a message has been sent to all units of the BSF and SSB along with two pictures of Amritpal โ€“ with and without his turban. โ€œIt is reliably learned that Amritpal Singh, the chief of a pro-Khalistan outfit, has been declared a fugitive by Punjab Police.

There is a possibility that he crossed the India-Nepal border or International Border in Punjab. They have been asked to be alert and to sensitize all personnel deployed in the border posts,โ€ an officer said.

The police had planned to arrest Amritpal at Mehatpur on the Jalandhar-Moga Road on Saturday. He, however, managed to escape and sources said he left his vehicle and mobile phone near Nakodar.

In a statewide crackdown, the police nabbed 78 of his associates Saturday. The hunt for Amritpal continued for the second day with district police chiefs carrying out flag marches in major towns in Punjab and the state government extending internet suspension till Monday noon.

The Punjab Police booked Amritpal and seven of his associates under the Arms Act Sunday after they claimed to have recovered six 12-bore rifles and 196 cartridges. Amritsar (Rural) SSP Satinder Singh said over 100 illegal cartridges were seized from an associate of Amritpal. Later, the seven persons arrested from his team were sent to police custody till March 23.

According to Officials in intelligence agencies,  Amritpal had gone to Dubai in 2012 to work as a truck driver in his family transport business. Around the time, he also came in contact with Jaswant Singh Rode, brother of Pakistan-based proscribed Khalistani operative Lakhbir Singh Rode, and militant Paramjit Singh Pamma. It is suspected that they put him through to the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) which offered him money to revive Khalistan sentiments in Punjab.
โ€œAvtar Singh Khanda (UK-based SAD-Amritsar activist and close associate of Khalistani terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara) is the main handler of Amritpal Singh and the brain behind his meteoric rise. Khanda is also close to Pamma and is known for holding theoretical radical training classes for Sikh youth,โ€ a security establishment official said.
