New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad today. This meeting comes a day after the Congress’s G-23 dissidents had a meeting for discussing the way ahead of Congress.
The dissidents have been having a meetings since Wednesday, upset with the stance of the loyalists at the Congress Working Committee. The loyalist insist on reasserting the Gandhis leadership, despite serial losses.
The offer of Sonia Gandhi that all Gandhis should step down was turned down by all the Congress leaders at the last Congress Working Committee Meet.
The G-23 has been persistently seeking for restructure of the organization. It had first wrote about this to Sonia Gandhi in 2020. The group had, in a statement on Wednesday, said the “only way forward for the Congress was to adopt a model of inclusive and collective leadership and decision making at all levels.” They insisted they want to strengthen the Congress and “not undermine it in any way.”
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi yesterday. In the meet Bhupinder explained the current situation at Haryana to Rahul Gandhi and had a discussion about how the party should be strengthened in the state, sources said.
A group of 18 Congress leaders — a mix of G-23 dissidents and some ‘newcomers’ — spoke in favour of a “collective, inclusive leadership” after a meeting at the house of senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.
From the group Bhupinder is the first leader to visit Rahul Gandhi.
