“Timing Of Search Interesting”: P Chidamabaram Reacts To CBI Action At His Houses

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidamabaram today took to Twitter to inform that his homes in Delhi and Chennai were searched by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the Congress leader’s son Karti Chidambaram was also raided by the federal probe agency.

“This morning, a CBI team searched my residence at Chennai and my official residence at Delhi. The team showed me a FIR in which I am not named as an accused. The search team found nothing and seized nothing. I may point out that the timing of the search is interesting,” Chidambaram wrote in his tweet.

The CBI has registered a fresh case against Karti Chidambaram, as per NDTV sources, accusing him of receiving ₹ 50 lakh as bribe to facilitate the visa of 250 Chinese nationals for a power project in Punjab between 2010-14.

CBI Conducted search operation at 80 Lodhi Estate residence of Chidambaram this morning. The staff present at his house was questioned by the agency. They also took some papers from his residence.

“There were total seven members in the CBI team. Karti Chidambaram was not at his residence during the raid at 7.30 am,” said Birbal Singh, the security guard posted at his house.

“I have lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record,” Karti Chidambaram tweeted shortly after news of the raids emerged.

Karti is being probed for several cases registered on him, including the one relating to Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving foreign funds to the tune of ₹ 305 crore when his father P Chidambaram was the finance minister.
