“Where should we spend less?”: Agitated Economic Advisor Asks Anchor Over Budget

New Delhi: Budget 2022-23 was recently announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In the budget, there is no change in the income tax slab. While speaking with Aaj Tak Principal Economic Advisor Sanjeev Sanyal questions where should we spend less?

On being questioned about the no change in the income tax slab, he says that he is not concerned with whatever the opposition has said. He asks, “Where should we spend less?”

Further, he said that the government wants each one to be benefitted either by tax or by expenditure, but we design policies as per the situation. 

He said that we are going through a pandemic, under this situation either we can reduce tax or we can develop infrastructure. Infrastructure is necessary for the country. This will generate employment.

Further, he says that from this demand will increase. He said, “If we build a bridge, the demand for steel and cement will increase. So we have to invest to increase the demand and to develop the infrastructure. For doing so we can either take money from market or from taxes.”
