Manipur CM Biren Singh resigned after the Supreme Court ordered a forensic report on the audio clips that were leaked. The audio clips are allegedly similar to Biren Singhโs, and it is alleged that he instigated ethnic violence in Manipur.
In a leaked audio tape, it is allegedly suggested that Singh said the Meitei group was allowed to loot from the state government during the violence, which has claimed 250 lives till now.
Leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, also accused him of instigating division among the people of Manipur and blamed PM Narendra Modi for allowing him.
Rahul Gandhi posted on X, stating, โFor nearly two years, BJPโs CM Biren Singh instigated division in Manipur. PM Modi allowed him to continue despite the violence, loss of life, and the destruction of the idea of India in Manipur.โ
He added, โThe resignation of CM Biren Singh shows that mounting public pressure, the SC investigation and the no-confidence motion by the Congress have forced a reckoning.โ
