Brief shootout at Budgam; LeT militant killed, lady injured

Srinagar, Mach 25: A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed and a lady sustained injuries during a brief encounter in Khan Mohalla of district Budgam, last night.

Reports said that on specific input regarding the presence of militants Budgam police, 53 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Khan Mohalla, Arizal jurisdiction of Police station Beerwah.

During the search, militants tried to flee and came out of the house and fired indiscriminately on Security Forces. In retaliation, one LeT militant was neutralized, identified as Shafat Wani r/o Wagoora Kreeri Pattan Baramulla. Arms and ammunition have been also recovered from militant.

Meanwhile, in the incident, one lady received an injury in the thigh while the hiding militant was trying to escape firing indiscriminately. She has been promptly evacuated to hospital by the police for medical treatment and her condition is now reported to be stable. The area is under cordon and search is being done.

No collateral damage has occurred during the operation. Legal proceedings have been initiated by police and investigation taken up.
