“Money Kept In My House Without My Knowledge”, Says Arpita Mukherjee

Arpita Mukherjee claims that the money recovered by ED from her residence was in her absence and it doesn’t belong to her.

Mumbai: On Tuesday, Arpita Mukherjee who is linked to the SSC scam along with TMC’s Partha Chatterjee said that the money found from her residence was kept there in her absence. In the recruitment case, the ED has recovered around Rs. 50 Crores in cash and along with jewellry from her two flats in Kolkata.

“The money does not belong to me, it was kept there in my absence without my knowledge”, Arpita Mukherjee told the reporters.

Former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee were sent to ED custody till August 3.

Earlier, Chatterjee, who was relieved of his ministerial duties, claimed he was a “victim of a conspiracy” and expressed his dismay at Trinamool’s decision to suspend him. Both Mr. Chatterjee and Ms. Mukherjee claimed that the money recovered was not theirs.
Tomorrow they will appear before a PMLA court, with their 10-day custody under ED coming to an end.

However, the leader of  the opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the whole scam involves TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee.

Ram Madhav, the BJP General Secretary, today on Saturday stated that there is no threat to the reigning coalition of PDP-BJP in the state of Jammu and Kashmir as both the parties are working in collaboration with one another.

Madhav arrived today in Jammu for chairing a Bhartiya Janata Party legislature meet at the party headquarters.

Madhav, who is also the in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir said, “We will talk to our party legislature and to the two ministers as well who have tendered their resignations”. He further added, “Things would be discussed and deliberations will be held about the latest political developments in the state.”

In the meantime, Mehbooba Mufti, the chief minister for the state is in Srinagar where she is holding a meeting with the party legislators along with the senior ministers so as to discuss the future course of action on rape and murder of the eight-year-old in Kathua.

As per the sources, Mehbooba was likely to make a request to the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir for constituting a fast-track trial court for delivering a sentence in the case. Moreover, the chief minister is also slated to declare the name of the police officers accused against whom the charge sheet has been filed.
