“Declare OBCs Comprise 51 %”: Chhagan Bhujbal

NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, while attending a gathering of youths from the Mali community, demanded either conduct a caste census in the country or declare that 51% of India’s population is OBC to the Indian Government on Sunday.

Bhujbal is not just a senior leader of the NCP but also the OBC face of the party. Bhujbal, who won the assembly election, was excluded from the cabinet.

Bhujbal attended the Mali community gathering at Shegaon in the Buldana district. He said, “There is a lot of injustice against OBCs, “I, too, have suffered much injustice. But I fight for OBCs. I stand against the inclusion of the Maratha community in the OBC category. I have been demanding a caste census since 2016. Either do that or declare that OBCs are 51% of India’s population.”

He added, “In other states, protests by some castes demanding OBC reservation ended after introducing a quota based on economic criteria (EWS). “But this did not happen in Maharashtra,”.

Bhujbal further said, “The demand to be included in the OBC quota continues here—that man from Jalna (Manoj Jarange-Patil) is just not ready to listen. Who will explain to him that just reservation does not ensure jobs?”.

Samata Parishan, an OBC organisation under Chhagan Bhujbal’s leadership, has held meetings in Marathwada. The organisation has decided to open branches in every village of Maharashtra and ensure that there is one member from every OBC home.
