Goa CM announces No Sunburn Festivals to be held this year

Panji: The annual sunburn festival that happens in Goa stands canceled this year which is bad news for music lovers. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a announcement today morning, stating that no permission will be given for holding the festival this year, which welcomes attendees from the country and around the globe.

During a press conference the minister he told the reporters, “We have not given permission to Sunburn to hold the festival this year. I have already passed the file stating this.”

The decision comes as India continues to do its bit to contain Covid cases. Earlier this year, Goa tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar had said permission had not been granted for the Sunburn EDM Festival, but that organisers had applied for it.

It seemed, there was some miscommunication regarding the status of the festival, for on the official Sunburn Twitter page, the last tweet teases the announcement of the first headliner for Sunburn Goa 2021.

Another tweet suggested that pre-sale tickets to Sunburn Goa 2021 are “sold out”

In a tweet dated November 17, the Sunburn organisers had announced, “Life hasn’t been easy for anyone in the recent past, but trying to do a music festival is another thing. We want to still do it, because we want to live, because we miss the energy, the happiness, the music and the dance… This year is going to be different… But it is Sunburn. The same music, the same energy, the same production and the same vibe.”

The 15th edition of the Sunburn Festival was slated for December this year at Vagator with the organisers announcing that only fully vaccinated participants will be allowed.

The music and dance festival is essentially the celebration of certain genres of music like EDM. It has been held in the state — around this time every year — for the last 15 years.
