On Thursday violence erupted in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, as political factions neared the finalization of a transition council to replace the absent government. Among the incidents was a shootout resulting in the death of another gang leader, Ernst Julme, also known as Ti Greg. Julme, a member of gang leader Jimmy “Barbeque” Cherizier’s “Viv Ansanm” alliance, had recently escaped from Haiti’s largest prison in a mass jailbreak, marking a setback for gangs’ attempts to expand control over the city.
