Calling out to denounce the Talibani ideology Harmony foundation said โWe need to strongly condemn their barbaric ideologies that have curbed Afghan womenโs advancementโ
The Harmony foundation in its statement condemned the prohibition of women pursuing higher education for women.
โThe atrocious, horrific, and deplorable rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan is not something we are all unaware of.โ
โThe world knows the appalling and distressing reality of the Taliban, which has shocked the world every now and then. Their extremist and radical Islamic ideology continues to worsen the fate of Afghani citizens, especially women. The Talibanโs recent order barring women and girls from accessing higher education in Afghanistan is yet another act that denies the very rights of women to be treated equally and also contravenes the tenets of Islam. As a matter of fact, more than the United Nations, the Islamic nations should be at the forefront aggressively condemning this barbaric and chauvinistic bunch of people whose thinking is typical of the mediaeval times.โ Dr.Abraham Mathai, Founder- Chairman, Harmony Foundation said in a statement.
โEducation is a fundamental human right for every individual in the world, yet the brutal regime of the Taliban has yet again burned the bridge for education for women in Afghanistan.โ Dr.Mathaiโs statement added.
The statement further said, โThese women live in a prison of radical Islamic ideologies that curb their basic human right to attain education and live a fulfilling life with a satisfying career.โ
โThese women live in cages of moral codes and conduct that are not for their upliftment and empowerment but to satisfy the traditional oppressive doctrines of groups like the Taliban that treat them like objects.โ The statement read.
โTheir dreams are murdered by such conservationists that consider women second-class citizens in their society and adhere to rules and traditions that suppress them to a level of unimaginable magnitude.โ
โEducation is not a privilege but a necessity which should not only be accessible to a certain section of society.โ The statement further read.
โAbraham Lincoln also stated in one of his speeches that as a nation we cannot remain half slave and half free. Sadly the scenario that exists in Afghanistan today under the Taliban rule is in violation of the above memorable quote by Lincoln. Itโs absurd and ridiculous for the Taliban regime to brazenly usher in regression and retrogression in such times of advancement and enlightenment. The international community should ruthlessly condemn and castigate the anarchic regime with very unsparing terms demanding that they be ostracized and outlawed for advocating and representing obsolete ways of thinking typical of the primitive
times.
โTaliban are nothing but a horde of savages totally against progress and advancement in a
modern developed world.โ The statement further said.
Appealing to the United Nations Harmony foundation said, โThe United Nations should mobilize the rest of the world to isolate these anarchic hooligans heavily bent on disenfranchising and marginalizing women and girls in times when empowerment is the main discourse in practically every global forumโ.
โItโs time the rest of the world took decisive action to prevent Afghanistan from sliding into the abyss under the Taliban where the women and girls will be shut and locked up in cages of ignorance, illiteracy and retrogression.โ
The press release further said, โThese women in Afghanistan, whose dreams are killed by the despicable Talibanโs rule, need our strong support.โ
Calling out to denounce the Talibani ideology Harmony Foundation said โWe need to strongly condemn their barbaric ideologies that have curbed Afghan womenโs advancement.โ
โThese women deserve to lead a life on their own terms, where the basic, fundamental right to education should be respected.โ
Quoting โBrigham Youngโ the statement said: โYou educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you have educated a nation.โ This thought provoking wise saying has had a ripple effect of motivating people globally to strive for education for allโ.
Concluding the statement Dr.Mathai said, โWhen women are educated, they become productive and contribute to the society at large. I sincerely hope that the strong criticism of the Talibanโs new rule prohibiting girls from attending university by civil society especially Muslims across the world will shake the Taliban to awaken from their conservative slumber, allowing these women and girls access to their basic human rightsโ.
