India Refrains From Voting On UN Islamophobia Resolution

India abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution on Islamophobia proposed by Pakistan and China. India argued for recognizing โ€œreligiophobiaโ€ against Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and other faiths. The resolution โ€˜Measures to combat Islamophobiaโ€™ passed with 115 in favour, none against, and 44 abstentions, including India. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj condemned all acts of anti-Semitism, Christianophobia, and Islamophobia but emphasized recognizing that such phobias extend beyond Abrahamic religions.
