Breaking: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani To Resign, Taliban Enters Kabul For Negotiations

Taliban leadership released a statement saying they have instructed their forces not to cross the gates of Kabul and take the city by force.

After the Taliban reached on the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Sunday conquering almost all major cities of the neighbouring country, President Ashraf Ghani will resign from the top post in the next few hours, news agency Al Arabiya reported.

This comes after reports suggested that the Taliban will not enter Kabul forcefully and is in talks with the Afghanistan government for peaceful transition of power.

“Afghanistan will have ‘peaceful transfer of power’ to a ‘transitional government,” interior minister General Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

The Associated Press reported that as per Afghan officials, Taliban negotiators are heading to presidential palace to prepare for a ‘transfer’ of power.

Taliban leadership released a statement saying they have instructed their forces not to cross the gates of Kabul and take the city by force, the Al Jazeera reported.

“Negotiations are underway to ensure that the transition process is completed safely and securely,” the Taliban was quoted as saying by the Al Jazeera.
