Kenyan Marathon Record Holder Kelvin Kiptum Dies In Accident

Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum, holder of the men’s marathon world record at 24, tragically passed away in a car accident in western Kenya, along with his coach, Rwanda’s Gervais Hakizimana, on Sunday. Kiptum emerged as a notable rival to Eliud Kipchoge, achieving a milestone in 2023 by surpassing Kipchoge’s record in Chicago. Both athletes were selected for Kenya’s tentative marathon team for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
