This comes amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the attack
Malaysia has expressed its support for Pakistan, advocating for an independent international investigation into the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. This attack was in Jammu and Kashmir. It resulted in the deaths of 26 people and left many others injured.
This backing comes at a time of escalating diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the attack.
In a phone call with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar emphasized the challenging situation Pakistan is facing and reiterated his call for a transparent investigation to hold those accountable for the tragedy. He supported Pakistan in its bid for a transparent probe into the attack.
“I expressed my full understanding of the difficult circumstances Pakistan is facing and conveyed Malaysia’s hope that the situation will de-escalate swiftly. I strongly condemned any form of violence and affirmed Malaysia’s support for an independent and transparent investigation to identify those responsible,” Anwar wrote on X.
He added, “Malaysia remains open to playing a constructive role, should the need arise. We believe our close ties with both Pakistan and India place us in a position to support efforts towards regional peace and stability.’
During their discussion, Sharif firmly denied any allegations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack. According to Radio Pakistan, Sharif expressed Pakistan’s apprehensions regarding the rising tensions in South Asia. He expressed fear regarding potential military retaliation due to alleged cross-border connections to the attack.
Earlier, Sharif accused India of failing to provide substantial evidence and of misleadingly attempting to associate Pakistan with the incident.
Sharif said, “India had yet to respond to Pakistan’s offer to have a credible, transparent and neutral international investigation to ascertain the facts behind the Pahalgam incident.”
He echoed the sentiments of other Pakistani officials. He urged New Delhi to accept Islamabad’s proposal for a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack.
This incident, one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir, involved Lashkar-linked terrorists who opened fire on tourists. This was in Pahalgam on April 22. It resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, including foreign nationals, and injuring many others. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group associated with Lashkar, initially claimed responsibility for the attack. But they later retracted their statement following widespread global condemnation.
