Following a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in New York City, 11 aftershocks hit the region, surprising residents unaccustomed to seismic activity. The tremor, the area’s third-largest in five decades and New Jersey’s strongest in over 240 years, occurred around 10:20 am (US local time), at a depth of 4.7 kilometers.
