Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau admitted that there is a presence of Khalistani supporters in the country; he also said that they do not represent the Sikh community in Canada as a whole. Justin Trudeau’s admission about the presence of Khalistani supporters vindicates India’s stand that the Canadian government is harbouring pro-Khalistani elements.
He further said that there are Hindu supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Canada, but they also do not represent the Hindu community as a whole in Canada.
Trudeau’s comments came amid an escalating diplomatic row between Canada and India over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In September 2023, Trudeau claimed that Indian operatives were involved in Nijjar’s murder, causing tensions between the two nations.
