Mattoo shared the prestigious award with Reuters photojournalists Adnan Abidi, Amit Dev, and Danish Siddiqui. Siddiqui was killed while covering the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. The four-member Reuters team got the prize for images of COVID’s toll in India that balanced intimacy and devastation while offering viewers a heightened sense of place.
