Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was appointed on the top post after Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned owing to widespread protests, has also stepped down from the Premiership of the island country, as protests intensified today, with protestors storming the residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who has reportedly fled the country.

Taking to Twitter, Ranil Wickremesinghe wrote: “To ensure the continuation of the Government including the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Government. To facilitate this I will resign as Prime Minister.”
