On March 7, Sweden formally became the 32nd member of NATO, marking an end to its decades-long neutrality since World War II. The accession comes amid rising concerns over Russian aggression in Europe following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken oversaw the ceremony, where Sweden’s “instrument of accession” to the alliance was deposited at the State Department.
