J&K: 2 Soldiers Killed In Action

In a tragic incident, Two soldiers were killed in action in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) attack by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector today, the Indian Army informed.

According to the officials, the troops were on patrolling duty when they were hit by the powerful explosion near a forward post in the Bhattal area at around 3:50 pm.

The injured personnel were rushed to a hospital where two of them, including a captain, succumbed to their injuries, they said, adding that the condition of the other injured soldier is “out of danger”.

Amid a massive uproar over podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s derogatory remarks in a YouTube show.On Monday, a study was released that revealed  Anti-minority hate speech in India rose by 74.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, The study is published by Washington DC-based research group India Hate Lab.

The research, Social Media and Hate Speech in India documented 1,165 instances of hate speech targeting religious minorities, primarily Muslims and Christians, in the country last year.

Of these, 1,147, which is 98.5% of speeches, targeted Muslims – either explicitly or alongside Christians  – while 9.9% targeted Christians, either explicitly or alongside Muslims, the study revealed. In 2023, 668 such incidents were recorded.

The report has attributed general elections as a reason behind the rise of hate speech.The report further claims Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath was responsible for 7.4% of hate speech incidents; Adityanath is said to have delivered 86 speeches that were considered hate speech. 

While PM Modi delivered 67, accounting for 5.7% of hate speeches in 2024.Third on the list is Home Minister Amit Shah, with 58 hate speeches and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at 4th with 36 speeches. 

The report further said that 931, or 79.9%,  hate speeches were recorded in  BJP-ruled states or Union Territories. On the other hand, Opposition-ruled states recorded 234, or 20%, instances of hate speech. 

Now, social media has played a major role in disseminating these hate speeches. Of the 1,165 documented incidents, 995 were traced back to videos uploaded or live-streamed on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and micro-blogging website X. 

Despite having community guidelines against hate speech, these platforms failed to curb the spread of such content. 

The report also claims that in 2024, the ruling BJP was the most frequent organizer of hate speech events, directly sponsoring and facilitating 340 such gatherings, which accounted for 29.2% of all documented incidents.

If we speak about dangerous speeches, which, according to the report, include explicit calls for violence and exhortations for Hindus to arm themselves or procure weapons.There were 259 instances of dangerous speeches.  

On top of this list is Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane, who gave 24 speeches. BJP Telengana MLA T Raja Singh is second with 22. 

BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergil has condemned the report and said that it was published to malign India’s image.
