Zen also asked her parents to cover their nose and mouth with a wet cloth to prevent suffocation due to smoke.
Mumbai | The deadly fire that rocked the Crystal Tower in Parel area of Mumbai killed four. Though the fire brigade personnel succeeded in saving many who were trapped in the fire, often people tend to make wrong moves in the moments of panic. However, the 10- years old Zen was an exception. With her presence of mind and wariness, the 10-years old girl saved the lives of eight people from her family.
Zen had a school holiday today due to Bakri Eid. Her parents were at home too. When the fire started, Zen’s mother was in the bathroom. She saw smoke coming out of the window. She even told Zen’s father about it, however, he didn’t pay attention to it. Later, they realized that the 12th floor of the Crystal Tower building has caught fire. Zen’s parents woke her up and took her to the kitchen to hide in a safe space. The idea of being stuck in a fire had scared Zen’s parents.
But, Zen did not get frightened by the situation and instead, she chose to remain calm and displayed her presence of mind. She asked her parents to wet all the clothes they had. Further, she instructed them to cover themselves with the wet clothes and keep pouring water on it. She also asked her parents to cover their nose and mouth with a wet cloth to prevent suffocation due to smoke.
We all are taught in school that in case of fire, one should cover their face and body with wet cloth and keep pouring cold water which helps the person to not panic in such moments. Zen saved many lives by applying the things she learned in her school. The fire brigade personnel later rescued the family and other members. With her smartness, Zen saved many lives.
