While the government officials have frequently stressed that the case-load in UP has shot up due to the coming back of migrant labourers in the state, this was the first time when the government came out with figures and acknowledged it.
Asn per the government, compared to the 1041 migrants who have tested positive on their return, patients linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi and their contacts who’ve tested positive in UP account to 1,304 cases.
249 cases were reported on Wednesday, out of which 50 fresh cases were reported in Barabanki, all of them were migrant workers who returned recently, a health official said. Ayodhya also reported 21 cases, while Etawah reported 15, 12 in Prayagraj, 11 in Pratapgarh and 10 in Rampur. Barabanki’s district administration reported 95 new cases.
The Uttar Pradesh government has collected around 43,625 samples from “inter-state migrants”, whereas more than 5.36 lakh are under surveillance of ASHA workers, the UP health department said. The number of returned migrants who were under surveillance as on Tuesday were 4.75 lakh.
