The commissioner is said to have asked the State government for more time as around 270 more vaccination centers are to be created in the city.
BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Monday said that the mass vaccination drive for 18+ will not happen unless vaccine doses are available. He also said that this stand is a practical one and that he is willing to accept any criticism that comes his way.
āWe have always aimed at vaccinating one lakh a day, but have not been able to touch the target. I have therefore taken it up with the state government that we would like to begin the mass vaccination drive only once there is enough availability of vaccines for all,ā Chahal told TOI.
The BMC commissioner is said to ask the government for more time as around 270 more vaccination centers are to be created in the city. More time is required to secure a supply for the vaccines, the commissioner said. Around 90 lakh beneficiaries in the city need to be vaccinated in the city.
