2 LeT militants, 4 OGWs killed after attacking army post in Shopian

Kashmir: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed along with their four associates after attacking an army Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in Pohan area of Shopian district, last night.

Army in its statement issued said that the four associates killed with militants were their Over Ground Workers (OGW), but the separatist leaders blamed the army of killing the innocent youths and called for Kashmir shut down today.

A large number of students also started a protest against the incident after which the administration ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in Kashmir till Wednesday besides cancelled all the exams including the KAS.

Defence PRO Srinagar Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that at about 8:00 pm militants came in two cars and fired upon the MVCP in Pohan area which was retaliated by the army and in the cross fire one LeT militant got killed on the spot along with four OGWs.

Later in the morning, one more body of OGW was recovered from the spot while a body of another militant was also recovered few kilometres away from Sadpora area of Shopian who had got injured during the gunfight.

Keeping in view the sensitive situation of the valley, mobile internet speed was reduced to 120 Kbps while in many areas curfew-like restrictions were imposed with the extra deployment of security forces to maintain law and order situation.

The situation was tense till the filing of this report and incidents of stone pelting were reported from several areas.
