The Congress Working Committee (CWC), Congress’s top decision-making body, will assemble for an online meeting tomorrow, reportedly three weeks after a heated meeting saw leaders clash over the party’s political decline.
Members of parliament, former ministers and chief ministers, and members of the CWC are amongst the leaders to have written this letter. They are unhappy with “uncertainty” and “drift” in the party. The letter calls for an “honest introspection”, “collective leadership”, and stresses that the “youth are losing confidence” in the party, the leaders said.
Congress had rubbished a tweet on Monday by Sanjay Jha, who had claimed that over 100 leaders have written to Sonia Gandhi about the leadership change. Jha was sacked earlier by Congress party after he publically criticised the leadership for not being bothered about the party’s fall since 2014.
After the 2019 general elections loss, Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of President of CWC. Sonia Gandhi, in a damage controlling move, took over the party as interim party president.
