Thiruvananthapuram| A college student from Thiruvananthapuram has been elected the youngest mayor of the country. Arya Rajendran is just 21 years old. Arya initially felt that this was a prank done by some of her college friends, but when she got a call from the District Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M) and was asked to hand over a prestigious position in the party, then she realized it. She was told by the party that she would be the new mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

Elections were held recently for mayor and local bodies. In the 100-member corporation, the ruling party has won 51 seats, while the BJP has won 35 seats. After this, the ruling party surprised everyone by handing over the prestigious post to the first-time councilor. Senior party leader Jamila Sreedharan and two others were also in the race, but the party chose a young leader instead.

Arya is a second year BSc Mathematics student at All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram. She is definitely young in the council, but politics is not new to her. She became a member of Bala Sangam, a children’s organization associated with the party at the age of six, and is now its state president. Along with this, she is also an office bearer of the Students’ Federation of India, the youth wing of the party.

Her Father is an electrician and mother is LIC agent. Arya’s father Rajendran, born in a middle-class family and living in a one-floor house, is an electrician, while mother Sreelata Rajendran is an LIC agent. Talking to the reporters, Arya said that she will carry out all the responsibilities given by the party well.
