New Delhi| Today, the country is celebrating the 74th Independence Day in the Coronavirus era. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted our flag on the Red Fort for the 7th time. This is a record in itself as he becomes the fiurst non-congress MLA to do so.

This time more than 4000 people including politicians, officers, diplomats and media persons were invited. Entry was given on invitation card at the ceremony. Till last year, at least 10,000 people attended the ceremony to watch the Prime Minister’s speech live. Instructions have also been given regarding exit of the guests after the program is over.

In view of Coronavirus threat, the sitting arrangements this time have been made with the view of Social Distancing. At least 6 feet distance has been maintained between the two seats. Security Personnel will be wearing PPE Kits.

Highlights From PM Modi’s Speech:

  • PM Modi said, “We also know that it was a period that those who thought of expansionism tried to spread wherever they could, tried to raise their flags, but the movement of India’s Independence was also a source of inspiration within the world. It became, the divine pulse for the freedom of the world.”

  • “Those who were engaged in the blind race of expansionism, in order to fulfil the plans of expansionism, put the world into two world wars. It devastated the world. India poses a challenge to expansionism. Now 130 crore people have pledged to become self-sufficient among the Coronavirus. Many businesses in the world are looking at India’s supply chain. We have to move forward with Make in India as well as Make for World.”

  • “Today, we are breathing in Independent India, behind it is the sacrifice and dedication of millions of sons and daughters of the Mother India. Today is a festival to salute the brave heroes, the warriors. Our army-paramilitary forces, police personnel, everyone associated with the security forces, are engaged in protecting Mother India. Today is the birth anniversary of Arvind Ghosh. He went on to become from revolutionary to spiritual sage. Today is the day to remember him too.”

  • “There is this resolve of new energy by remembering the heroes of freedom. In a way, it brings new inspiration for us. New enthusiasm brings new enthusiasm. It is also important for us to take a new resolution. Next year we will enter the 75th year. This is a huge opportunity in itself. So for the next two years, we have to walk with a lot of resolves. When we enter the 75th year of independence, we will celebrate it as a Mahaparva to fulfil our resolutions.”

  • “The way our forefathers gave us freedom by uninterrupted penance, they sacrificed themselves. Let us not forget that there was no moment or region in such a period of slavery when the urge for freedom has not arisen. No one has tried or given up the desire for freedom. The youth spent in jails. Round of unilateral armed revolution, unilateral mass movement. Mahatma Gandhi gave energy to the freedom movement. Constant efforts were also made to crush the soul of India in this freedom struggle.”

  • “There was an effort to uproot India from its culture, tradition and customs. Some people used to believe that they have come to rule here. They thought that such a huge country, many kingdoms, different dialects, food, many languages, a country scattered due to so much diversity, could never fight the freedom struggle together. But they could not recognize the life force here.”

  • “India poses a challenge for expansionism. History cannot deny this. In the freedom struggle, the world moved forward with the strength of its solidarity, the strength of its collectivity, its energy, determination and inspiration towards its bright future.”

  • “130 crore Indians among Corona pledged to become self-reliant. Self-reliant India is embedded in the mind-mind of every Indian today. Watching this dream change into resolve. It has become a mantra for 130 crore countrymen today. Today, even after so many years of independence, it is necessary for India to become self-sufficient. What is necessary for the family is also important for the country. India will live by this dream. I am proud of the strength and talent of this country.”

  • “In the crisis of Corona we saw that the world is facing difficulty. In this country, N-95 masks were not made, PPE kits were not made, ventilators were not made, now they were made. Today we can see how self-reliant India can help the world. Local products should be promoted. Together we take a pledge that when we are moving towards 75 years, then adopt the mantra of Vocal for Local.”
