83 Year Old Activist Stan Swamy Detained By NIA In Bhima-Koregaon Case

On the condition of anonymity, two NIA officials confirmed that NIA has detained Stan Swamy from Ranchi in connection with the investigation of the Bhima Koregaon case.

 

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday detained human rights activist Father Stan Swamy from Ranchi for questioning in the Bhima-Koregaon violence case of Maharashtra. The 83-year-old Stan Swamy was detained from Ranchi after questioning. Earlier, Swamy denied any involvement in Bhima-Koregaon.

On the condition of anonymity, two NIA officials confirmed that NIA has detained Swamy from Ranchi in connection with the investigation of the Bhima Koregaon case. He said that it is more likely that Swami will be arrested by Friday morning. However, the officials refused to provide information as to why he is being questioned again.

 

He said, “We called Stan Swamy to the office in Ranchi for questioning on Thursday and his role in this case was questioned. He was not arrested till Thursday, but he can be arrested at any time.” This case is related to the incident of December 31, 2017. A day before Bhima-Koregaon meeting Elgar Parishad even took place. .

Earlier, Swamy was interrogated for two hours in Ranchi on 7 August and was later called to the NIA office in Mumbai for further questioning. A statement said that Swami was called to appear in Mumbai after six weeks of silence. However, he had informed the agency that he would not be able to travel due to his old age and the Coronavirus pandemic.
