New Delhi| The Delhi Police has continued its actions in regard to the rioting that hit north-east Delhi in late February. The police on Wednesday booked suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor, Tahir Hussain, under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for his alleged role in the violence that erupted in Delhi in the wake of protests against the citizenship law.
Post the riots, Tahir Hussain was arrested from Delhi’s Chand Bagh area. Hussain is also accused of the murder of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma during the riots. Sharma’s body was found in the drain in northeast Delhi.

On Tuesday, activist Umar Khalid and two JNU students were also booked under UAPA for their alleged involvement in Delhi violence.
Earlier, Sharjeel Imam, who made to the news during for controversial speech during anti-CAA protest and was arrested later, was also booked under the same UAPA law this week for Delhi riots.
Activists, journalist and opposition parties have voiced their dismay citing the “blatant” use of the law meant for terrorist activities.
