Madras HC begins Suo Moto action against BJP leader for remarks on judiciary

Chennai | The Madras High Court on Monday began a suo motto contempt proceedings against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader H Raja for his abusive remarks against judiciary and police.

The Court’s actions have come after a video got viral on social media depicting the BJP national secretary abusing a policeman during a Ganesh idol emersion process in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai. The leader is seen calling the police officers ‘corrupt’ and ‘anti-Hindu’. According to sources, Raja’s derogatory remarks against the police officers have come after the local police denied permission to the leader for taking out the idol procession through a particular route in the city citing ‘a court order’.

The High Court bench comprising of Justices CT Selvam and Nirmal Kumar has asked H Raja to appear before the court within 4 weeks. Opposition parties including DMK have asked the state government for legal actions against Raja.
