Ahead Of Trump’s Visit, Agra Gets A Makeover, Water Released In Yamuna

The Narendra Modi government wants India shining for US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania’s visit on February 24-25.

New Delhi| From building a wall to hide the poor to caging the stray animals, the Narendra Modi government is doing a huge amount of window dressing to ensure the Donald Trump doesn’t witness anything deemed ‘ugly’ during his India visit.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has mounted a massive image makeover of the Taj city.

According to reports, over 500 cusecs of water have been released by the state irrigation department into the Yamuna after the sorry plight of the river was highlighted by media and activists of the River Connect Campaign.

The river, which passes through Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh and flows behind Taj Mahal, has suffered heavily from industrial and sewage pollution in the last few decades.

The walls on the route leading to the Taj Mahal have been freshly painted for the US president. A fresh coat of paint, it seems, was not enough. News18 reported that artists were hired to beautify the walls with paintings.

India is rolling out the red carpet for the Trumps by giving Agra a makeover with fresh paint and releasing freshwater into the Yamuna and promising lakhs of people in attendance of the President and the first lady.

In a statement, foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said US President Donald Trump’s visit would be “brief but intense with all the essential elements of a state visit with two additional legs of Ahmedabad and Agra all squeezed into 36 hours.”

During his packed two-day visit, the highlight of which will be an extravagant event in Ahmedabad called ‘Namaste Trump’, the US President will inaugurate the world’s largest cricket stadium and visit Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram in Sabarmati.
