AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has sought a re-trial in the Mecca Masjid blast case against the verdict which acquitted all the five accused.
The member of Parliament from Hyderabad addressed an audience in Saidabad days after the verdict. “Tomorrow, which is Friday, at 4 p.m., we will meet the Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and we will place before him these facts and demand that Centre order a retrial or appeal against the case in the Supreme Court,” he stated.
Owaisi said in such major cases, an advocate having at least 10 years’ of experience is fielded by the government, but here an “inexperienced” lawyer was appointed the prosecutor.
Comparing the trial of the Dilsukhanagar blast with the Mecca Masjid’s, Owaisi said that an IPS officer was available at hearings of the former while this was not seen in the latter. He also said that arrangements were made in Cherlapalli jail where Dilsukhnagar blast accused were lodged. Similar arrangements were not made during the Mecca Masjid trial
A special NIA court acquitted all the five accused who stood on trial last Monday, holding that the prosecution could not prove “even a single” allegation against them.
