Alwar lynching: SIT to submit report on Pehlu Khan’s death to CM Gehlot on Monday

On April 1, 2017, Pehlu Khan, a dairy businessman from Haryana was brutally beaten by a mob of alleged cow vigilantes. He died two days later.

 

Alwar| A matter of mishandling of the investigation in the Pehlu Khan Mob lynching case has come to light. Reportedly, Special Investigation Team (SIT) has identified the person who hit Pehlu Khan based on the evidence.

There are allegations that because of the investigation team’s poor handling of the case and negligence during the probe, the case couldn’t reach the conclusion. According to the sources, there was carelessness in filing the case itself. The statement of critically injured Pehlu Khan was recorded without the prescribed procedure.

The SIT is trying to reach out to the people who made the videos of the lynching incident. There are Three-four different videos with the team. The statements of all investigating officers have been taken after. The SIT has found irregularity and negligence by the officers who were investigating the matter earlier. The SIT has to submit this report to the Rajasthan government within 15 days. The deadline will end on Monday.

All accused acquitted

On April 1, 2017, Pehlu Khan, a dairy businessman from Haryana was brutally beaten by a mob of alleged cow vigilantes. They suspected that Pehlu Khan was smuggling cows. The video of the lynching was also circulated on social media. Khan died two days later. The incident spurted widespread anger and criticism. Total nine accused were arrested out of which two are minors.

However, all the accused were acquitted by the Alwar District Court. On the other hand, Pehlu Khan’s son expressed unhappiness over the court’s decision.

Gehlot government formed SIT team

After the acquittal of all the accused in the Pehlu Khan mob lynching case, criticism poured in for the Rajasthan government. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot promised to form an SIT to re-investigate the case and take it to the logical conclusion.
