Arun Jaitley appreciates NIA for cracking ISIS module

New Delhi | Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today appreciated the National Investigation Agency (NIA) work of busting the ISIS-inspired module in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi which planned to target VIPs and carry out blasts in North India especially Delhi.

Taking on Twitter, Arun Jaitley wrote,” National security and sovereignty are paramount. Life and personal liberty will survive only in a strong democratic nation – not in a terrorist dominated State.”

The Union Minister also attacked the opposition for criticising the government over its notification for allowing 10 agencies to intercept and monitor computers. He wrote, “Would this crackdown of the terrorist module by NIA have been possible without interception of electronic communications?” “Were the maximum intercepts done during the UPA Government? Surely George Orwell was not born in May 2014,” he added.

The NIA on December 26, detained 10 persons from Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi for their suspected involvement with a new ISIS-inspired terror module ‘Harkat ul Harb e Islam’. The agency conducted searches across 16 location in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and recovered 100 mobile phones, 135 sim cards, Indian currency worth 7.5 lakhs, large scale of explosive materials and a country made rocket launcher.

Of the 10 persons detained by the anti-terror probe agency, five were picked up from the western Uttar Pradesh district of Amroha following a joint operation with the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad, Inspector General ATS Asim Arun said in Lucknow. Addressing media after the raid, NIA Inspector general informed,” Level of preparation suggests their aim was to carry out explosions in near future by remote control blasts & fidayeen attacks, they were in touch with a foreign agent. Identities are yet to be established.”
