After remaining critical for a week, a Philippines national, aged 68, died on Sunday night due to renal failure, respiratory distress and Covid-19. Civic officials said the foreigner had earlier tested negative but his condition later turned critical. He was shifted from Kasturba Hospital to a private hospital. This is the third Covid-19 death in a week in Mumbai. On Saturday night a 63-year-old Malabar hill resident had died due to the infection.
The total number of Covid-19 patients in Maharashtra rose to 89 with 15 more coronavirus positive cases reported in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, 14 are in Mumbai and one in Pune.

Coronavirus deaths have soared across the world despite heightened restrictions, as India shut down 13 states and 80 districts, Germany banned gatherings of more than two people and Chancellor Angela Merkel went into quarantine.
