Assam: 102 People Lost Lives In Floods and Landslides This Year

More than 3000 villages across Assam have gone underwater and 1,27,955.33 hectares of crop areas have been affected.

 

Guwahati The floods in the north-eastern state of Assam has wreaked havoc and disturbed millions of lives. As per the official bulletin, close to 36 Lakh people in 28 districts of Assam have been affected due to the floods. The deluge and landslides caused by it have killed 102 people across the state in the year 2020. While 76 people died in flood-related incidents, 26 were killed in landslides.

8.92 lakh people have been affected due to the floods in Dhubri, which is the worst-hit district. As per the bulletin by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, in Goalpara 4.43 lakh are affected and 4.30 lakh are affected in Barpeta. More than 3000 villages across Assam have gone underwater and 1,27,955.33 hectares of crop areas have been affected.

With heavy rainfall lashing the state, Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark causing floods in the adjoining districts.
