PM Modi, Ayushmann Khurrana, Shaheen Bagh’s Bilkis Make To Time 100 List This Year

An 82-years old Bilkis, the dadi from Shaheen Bagh protest, is also among the list of influencers under Icons.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has made to the Time Magazine’s list of 100 Most Influential People this year. The critically acclaimed actor, who has starred in movies such as AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho, is listed under Artists along with Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, actor Michael B Jordan, Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and musicians Jennifer Hudson and Selena Gomez, among others.

In the category of Pioneers on the list, Ravindra Gupta, known for his work on HIV/AIDS treatment has been named. Leaders, Icons, and Titans are other categories. The Indian-born chief of Google, Sundar Pichai, is also on the list, making to the category of Titans.

An 82-years old Bilkis, the dadi from Shaheen Bagh protest, is also among the list of influencers under Icons.

In an essay written for Ayushmann Khurrana for the magazine, Deepika Padukone writes: “I remember Ayushmann Khurrana vividly from his debut film, Vicky Donor. He had, of course, been a part of the entertainment industry in various other ways for several years before that, but the reason you and I talk about him today is because of the impact he has been able to create through memorable films and iconic characters. Where male protagonist roles often fall into the trap of stereotypical masculinity, Ayushmann has successfully and convincingly transformed into characters who challenge those very stereotypes. In India, with a population of more than 1.3 billion, only a tiny percentage of people see their dreams come alive, and Ayushmann Khurrana is one of them. You’re probably wondering, How? Talent and hard work. Sure, that goes without saying. But more important, patience, perseverance, and fearlessness. A little insight for those who dare to dream.”

Journalist Rana Ayyub has written an essay for the Bilkis dadi from the Shaheen Bagh protest, which became the face of anti-CAA protests in India.

Rana Ayyub writes: “Bilkis gave hope and strength to activists and student leaders who were being thrown behind bars for standing up for the unpopular truth in a democracy that was sliding into authoritarianism, and inspired peaceful copycat protests across the country.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also on the list under leaders along with the US President Donald Trump, Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro.
